PROCLAMATION of PLAY
Welcome to Discover Golf at Pinecrest!! We are thrilled you are considering our facility and coaching staff for your junior golfer. Our staff of PGA Professionals and game engineers strive to create a junior golf environment and culture that includes everyone. Our programming reinforces the values of play, leadership, and resilience as we empower, inspire, create, interact, and embrace each junior’s unique mindset, age, skillset, and interest within the game of golf.
Why (as a coaching staff) do we hold the values of play, leadership, and resilience so near and dear to our hearts? Why would a junior golf program embrace a junior golfer’s mindset, age, skillset, and interest in the game of golf? More importantly, how do these values and individual human traits play a role in the development of the junior? I believe, the answer to these questions is centered around the highest form of learning. Decades of research supports the claim that PLAY is undoubtedly atop the hierarchy of learning.
- “Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in the child’s soul.” Friedrich Froebel
- “Play is the highest form of research” Albert Einstein
- “Play is the foundation of learning, creativity, self-expression, and constructive problem-solving. It’s how children wrestle with life to make it meaningful.” Susan Linn
- “Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain — unless it’s done with play, inwhich case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions!” – Dr. Karen Purvis
Golf – A game (PLAY) where an individual (HUMAN) is tasked with swinging a club at a high rate of speed (MOVEMENT), striking the golf ball (COORDINATION) at ballistic speeds, and sending it through the air to a preferred or desired location (MEANING). As a coach, it is my belief that our coaching staff would be under serving your son or daughter if our coaching style and junior golf program focused primarily on the aspects of movement and coordination. Although MOVEMENT and COORDINATION are undoubtedly important in the equation of golf, our programming embraces the underappreciated aspects of the golf equation.
The HUMAN searching and finding MEANING through PLAY.
I welcome all calls, emails, conversations, and questions regarding how to best serve your family and son or daughter in their excitement for learning the great game of golf.
